Missed Call Cost Calculator
Every call that rings out is a customer who wanted to hire someone. Put in your own numbers and see how many jobs — and how much revenue — unanswered calls cost you each month and each year.

What a typical booked job is worth to you.
Why missed calls cost so much
Most people looking for a contractor have a list of numbers, not just yours. In our experience running a contracting business, a lot of callers who reach voicemail don't leave a message. They hang up and call the next company on the list, and that company gets the job.
The calls you miss are rarely random, either: they come in while you're on a roof, under a sink, driving, or after hours — exactly when you can't pick up.

How the math works
- Step 1
Missed calls = calls per week × the percentage that go unanswered.
- Step 2
Jobs lost = missed calls × the share of answered calls that you normally book.
- Step 3
Revenue lost = jobs lost × your average job value. A month is 52 ÷ 12 weeks; a year is 52 weeks.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find out how many calls I miss?
Open your phone's call log (or your carrier's online call history) and count a normal week: every call that rang out, went to voicemail, or came in after hours. Count the calls you missed while you were on a ladder, driving, or with a customer too — those are the ones most owners forget. Divide the missed calls by the total to get your unanswered percentage.
Don't people just leave a voicemail or call back?
Some do. But many callers — especially someone with a leak, a broken door or an urgent repair — hang up and call the next company on the list instead. That is why this calculator lets you set your own numbers: if you know a share of your missed callers always call back, lower the unanswered percentage to match.
What booking rate should I use?
Use your own. Look at the calls you did answer last month and count how many turned into a booked appointment or a paid job. If you don't track it yet, make a careful guess and come back once you have a month of real numbers — the calculator updates as you type.
Is this an exact figure?
No — it is an estimate for planning. It assumes a missed caller would have booked at the same rate as the callers you answer, and it uses your average job value. Real results depend on your trade, your area and the season. Treat the result as the size of the problem, not a promise.
How can I answer every call without hiring a receptionist?
Common options are forwarding calls to a cell phone, paying an answering service, or using an AI receptionist. CallStream Pro is an AI receptionist that answers your calls and texts 24/7 — it qualifies the lead, books the job and sends you the transcript, so a call that comes in while you're on a job still gets answered.
Do you store the numbers I enter?
No. The calculator runs entirely in your browser — your call volume, rates and job values are never sent to our servers. The only thing we keep is an email address, and only if you choose to leave one for tips.
